O’Shea assists a client in Vermont with a drain blockage
Pauline is a long-term client of O’Shea Plumbing and has had heaters and hot water units replaced, water leaks fixed as well as some stormwater and sewer drains unblocked.
Pauline contacted the O’Shea Plumbing office in Mt Waverley asking to send a plumber out to unblock her sewer which had overflowed and flooded the bathroom. Paul (an O’Shea Plumber) arrived and managed to release the blockage using the cable machine and it was found that tree roots had caused the blockage somewhere near the front boundary.
As part of O’Shea Plumbing’s sewer blockage works this will always include a free camera inspection (subject to good access into the drain i.e. through an inspection opening) to help determine what the cause is and identify the location of where the blockage is occurring. Unfortunately, Paul did not have a drain camera on this day so organised Andrew (another O’Shea Plumber) to visit the next day.
Andrew arrived the next day (at no extra charge) and ran the camera down the sewer. It was found that the junction of the lead-off was badly infiltrated with tree roots. Andrew suggested that this be dug up and replaced with a new junction. Pauline agreed so Andrew wrote a quote to fix the issue as opposed to simply releasing the blockage just for it to just come back in a year or two when the tree roots re-grow.
Andrew arrived onsite to explain to the excavator operator where to start digging. This was dug in no time and was found that the tree roots had wrapped around the lead off junction completely separating the pipes and allowing more roots to enter.
This was replaced and the remainder of the sewer was checked with the camera and the hole was backfilled. The site was cleaned within a day of work. This solution has fixed the issue for the long term and Pauline will not have this issue again any time soon.
