Nadia, her husband and three daughters, live in a beautiful old home in Surrey Hills. One Sunday morning, they noticed a wet patch on the carpet in one of their rooms. At first, they thought it was a roof leak but there were no obvious signs of a roof leak. Nadia’s husband peeked his head under the house and saw that a water pipe had split and was spraying water directly up through the floorboards which eventually was soaked up by the carpet creating the puddle.
Nadia immediately rang a plumber who suggested they turn the water off at the water meter until the leak could be fixed. Although this stopped the water leak it also meant that there was no water being supplied to their house, meaning that Nadia and her family did not have water to flush toilets, drink, cook or clean. This, of course, meant no hot showers which was difficult due to it being a particularly cold and wet weekend in Melbourne.
Nadia made contact with Lawrie O’Shea on Sunday evening requesting the service of a plumber ASAP. Lawrie organised for Andrew to arrive early the next morning.
As Nadia had never used O’Shea Plumbing before, when Andrew arrived he explained his agenda and provided good information on not just the immediate issue but also flagged potential future issues that could occur and ways they can go about things to protect their plumbing. O’Shea Plumbing regularly tests the water pressures of the cold water and the water temperature of the hot water of houses, and where applicable, recommend pressure reduction valves and tempering valves. The benefit of water pressure reduction is that it makes all plumbing fixtures, appliances, pipes, etc. last longer. It also helps to reduce water hammer in the pipes.
Andrew assessed what was involved in fixing the water leak and provided Nadia with options to complete works to fix the water leak. Once this was approved Andrew got under the house and removed the section of the copper water pipe and replaced it. Andrew finished work, turned the water back on and went under the house to check that his works were watertight.
Once he confirmed his work was done, Andrew showed Nadia the finished work to which she replied, “Wow, that looks so much neater than before and you have stopped the leak. We are very grateful that you could come and fix our problem today. Thank you!”
