When Gwen discovered her internal Hot Water Unit (HWU) was leaking, she did not hesitate to find a plumber. Gwen googled ‘local plumber’ and was impressed by the number of positive reviews for O’Shea Plumbing.
Gwen contacted one of our friendly office staff to explain her situation and organised a plumber to attend the site ASAP. During the call, our office team guided Gwen to turn off the duo valve at the HWU, mitigating the immediate risk of flooding in the garage.
Chris arrived just an hour and a half later to discover that the HWU had split and needed replacement. He noted that the current flue system was made of asbestos, posing a real risk if disturbed during the HWU replacement. The client appreciated Chris’s alertness and requested the removal of the asbestos flue system as part of the quoted works. Gwen also noted that she could smell gas at times to which Chris replied “We will test your gas supply as part of the decommissioning of the existing HWU. This will test to see if there is a leak or not”.
Chris presented Gwen with a range of options for the hot water system replacement, from a direct replacement to an upgraded unit. Gwen swiftly approved the chosen option, and it was promptly booked for installation.
That next morning Chris met the Asbestos removalists onsite and instructed them where to work and what to remove. The old HWU was removed, and the asbestos was disposed of safely allowing Chris and the installing plumber Adrian to provide a safe area for the works.
Regrettably, during the gas pressure test, it was discovered that there was a leak in the gas supply, which came as no surprise to Gwen, given the age of the original gas piping. Chris quickly drafted a variation to the quote, including the removal of the leak and enabling the gas to be safely turned back on.
The HWU had been installed and the gas leak works were completed throughout the remainder of the day.
Gwen now has a new HWU with a new non-asbestos flue penetrating through the garage roof that is watertight as well as a new gas supply pipe guaranteeing the safety and comfort of Gwen and her family, all within 24 hours of the initial phone call.
